Free Motion Quilting April 22, 2024

Donna will teach you how to free motion quilt!  A fun and excellent class that will provide the skills to advance your quilting skills.
Attendees must bring the following items to class:

1. Sewing machine in good working order. If you have an extension table, bring it with you. It makes free-motion easier.
2. Foot Control
3. Power Cord

Class Supplies Available At Erin Matthew Sewing
4. Free motion foot – most models have several available; please ask if you are unsure. Also called a darning foot, open toe foot, or free-motion quilting foot .Please make sure to have this attached to your machine before class.
5. Owner’s manual for your machine
6. Sewing gloves
7. Thread scissors
8. Thread – several bright colors of polyester thread to contrast with your fabric. Glide polyester is recommended.
9. Bobbins – 5 or 6 prefilled bobbins. It is better to use different colors from your top thread to check the tension, but in this case, please use the same weight thread that you are using for the top thread.
10. Needles: 1 package of Microtex sharp 80/12 needles. You will need a brand new needle in the machine before we start class.
11. Fabric: You will need top fabric (I recommend dark fabrics so you can see your stitching), batting, and backing fabric. For the top fabric and the backing fabric, I recommend solid fabric. Prints make it very hard to see your stitching and patterns.
Bring 15 – 20 quilt sandwiches – 10” x 15” (1½ yards of 2 different fabrics will be plenty) – don’t forget the batting. Have them cut before you come to class – there will NOT be time to cut during class.
12. Bring a spiral notebook OR 3-ring binder with a few sheets of paper, pencil, and white mechanical marking pencil such as a Bohin or Fons and Porter.
Come early and be ready to go when your class is scheduled to start.
